Farolito Senior Community is an apartment community, currently in pre-development, that will serve seniors 55 and older with low incomes. Farolito is located directly north of its sister project, Luminaria Senior Community on Central Avenue, and will incorporate many of the same design elements to celebrate the heyday of Route 66 while creating a virtual and physical gateway to Route 66. The site was previously part of the Ponderosa RV and Mobile Home Park and is owned by the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO). NMSLO has leased the land to Sol Housing who will make improvements and develop new affordable housing apartment homes on the 2.3-acre site. 94% of the earnings from lease payments go to support the New Mexico public education system, public universities, and hospitals.

Funding for Farolito Senior Community is provided by the City of Albuquerque and utilization of Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority.
