Amy Peña
2026 Scholarship Winner
Amy Peña is currently a Cardiovascular Sonography student at Central New Mexico Community College. She chose this field because she is passionate about healthcare and enjoy being able to connect with and care for patients. After graduation, she plan to become a registered sonographer and continue growing within the cardiovascular field. As someone who is bilingual in English and Spanish, she also hope to use her language skills to help patients feel comfortable, understood, and cared for. She is incredibly grateful to the Sol Housing Scholarship for supporting her education and helping her work toward the career she has worked so hard for.
I believe my education will contribute to building a better Albuquerque by helping address the healthcare needs of our community. As a future cardiovascular sonographer, I will play an important role in helping diagnose heart and vascular conditions, allowing patients to receive timely treatment and improve their quality of life. Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in our communities, and early detection can make a significant difference in patient outcomes. By providing accurate diagnostic imaging and compassionate patient care, I hope to help individuals and families live healthier lives. I also hope to serve the diverse population of Albuquerque. As a bilingual English and Spanish speaker, I can help patients feel more comfortable and understood during what can often be a stressful medical experience.
Being able to communicate with patients in their preferred language helps build trust and improves access
to quality healthcare. By completing my education and building a career in healthcare, I hope to give back to the community that has supported me. My goal is to use my skills to improve the health and well being of Albuquerque residents and contribute to a stronger, healthier community for everyone.
